NPCI Enhances UPI Security: New Rules Coming Soon
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is making significant changes to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to enhance security and efficiency, starting April 1, 2025. These new rules will require banks and payment service providers like PhonePe and GPay to regularly update their records to avoid errors from inactive mobile numbers. If a mobile number is inactive for three months, it can be reassigned, which means linked UPI IDs will be deactivated. Additionally, NPCI is removing the “Collect Payments” feature for smaller transactions to combat fraud. Users must keep their registered mobile numbers active to ensure seamless transactions.
