Bharti Group Acquires 24.5% Stake in British Telecom for $4 Billion

Bharti Global, part of Bharti Enterprises, is set to become the largest shareholder in BT Group, the UK's leading broadband and mobile firm, by acquiring a 24.5% stake.

The $4 billion deal, starting with a 9.99% purchase from Altice UK, marks a significant investment by Sunil Bharti Mittal's conglomerate. Bharti had previous ties with BT, which held a 21% stake in Bharti Airtel from 1997 to 2001. This move adds to the growing trend of Indian companies acquiring British tech firms, like Reliance Industries' 2021 purchase of battery technology company Faradion for $135 million.
