Ford Motor plans to reopen its Chennai manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India, after shutting it down in 2021.
The company has submitted a letter of intent to the state government, following discussions to restart production for export markets. Previously, Ford ceased producing vehicles for domestic sale in India and stopped exports by 2022. The reopened plant will be repurposed for global exports, with further details on the vehicles to be manufactured yet to be announced.
