Google has welcomed back Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, the co-founders of Character.AI, by signing a licensing agreement to access their AI technology.
This deal includes Character.AI granting Google a non-exclusive licence for its current LLM technology and securing increased funding for Character.AI. Shazeer and De Freitas, who left Google in 2021 to start Character.AI, are rejoining the company. Dominic Perella, Character.AI’s general counsel and a former Snap executive, will serve as the interim CEO. The agreement aims to accelerate Character.AI’s progress in developing personalized AI products.
