Sebi's New Rules for SME IPO Market Makers

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is reviewing norms for market makers in the SME IPO sector. Market makers facilitate trading by providing buy and sell quotes for newly listed securities. Currently, there are no net worth criteria for these market makers, but discussions are underway to establish a range between Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore. Additionally, penalties for inactivity are being considered. Sebi has already tightened rules for SME IPOs, including profitability requirements and restrictions on fund usage, to enhance market integrity and protect investors.
