The RBI has directed banks and credit information companies (CICs) like CIBIL, Equifax, and Experian to compensate customers Rs 100 per day if credit data complaints aren’t resolved within 30 days.
CICs must notify users via SMS or email when banks or NBFCs access their credit reports. Banks must inform customers about defaults, delays, and reasons for rejected data correction requests. Mishandled updates have caused incorrect credit scores.
