Elon Musk Worked Without Authorization in the US at Start of Career

Elon Musk, who frequently critiques illegal immigration, reportedly worked without proper authorization in the U.S. when he began his career.

Originally from South Africa, Musk dropped out of Stanford in 1995 to co-found Zip2 but didn’t receive work authorization until 1997, according to The Washington Post. Musk was on a student visa and technically not allowed to leave school to work. While Musk calls this period a “legal grey area,” his recent social media posts highlight immigration issues, calling U.S.-Mexico border crossings a “zombie apocalypse” and critiquing the Biden administration.
