Air Purifier Sales Surge 30% in Delhi-NCR

Air pollution in India is becoming an alarming issue, especially in urban areas like Delhi NCR. A recent study by Croma, a leading electronic retailer, reveals that the demand for air purifiers has surged by 30% year-on-year. This spike in sales highlights the growing concern among consumers regarding air quality, particularly during the winter months when pollution levels tend to rise.

According to the report, Delhi NCR accounted for a staggering 72% of all air purifier sales at Croma. This indicates that residents are increasingly aware of the challenges posed by poor air quality and are taking proactive measures to combat it. Following Delhi NCR, Maharashtra and Karnataka contributed 12% and 4% respectively to the sales figures, showing a regional disparity in consumer behavior.

A spokesperson from Croma mentioned that air purifiers are no longer considered niche or seasonal products; they have become essential household items. The report emphasizes that many customers are now prioritizing features that offer comprehensive protection against pollutants. HEPA filters remain a popular choice due to their effectiveness in trapping harmful airborne particles.

The report also indicates a shift in consumer preferences towards advanced air purifier models. Many consumers are opting for products that include multi-layered filtration systems, combining pre-filters, activated carbon filters, and UVC LED technology for enhanced protection. Furthermore, the color white is the most popular choice, with 77% of air purifiers sold in this shade.

In terms of budget, the study found that the ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 range represented the largest segment, accounting for 49% of total sales. Interestingly, there is also a growing demand for super-premium models, which contribute 36% to overall sales. This indicates that more consumers are willing to invest in higher-quality products that offer better features and coverage.

Brand loyalty is evident in the market, with Philips and Dyson dominating the sales, accounting for 84% of air purifier sales at Croma. The report highlights the significant increase in sales, noting that one week alone accounted for 27% of the company’s annual sales for air purifiers. This upward trend reflects a heightened awareness among consumers regarding air quality and the necessity of air purification in their homes.

Moreover, 12% of customers opted for Croma’s ZipCare plans, which offer extended warranties and service support, ensuring the longevity of their air purifiers. This trend reveals a commitment from consumers to invest in long-term health solutions in light of increasing pollution levels.
