History Made in Hubli: Jammu & Kashmir Win Their First-Ever Ranji Trophy

28 Feb, 2026

Jammu & Kashmir completed one of the greatest underdog stories in Indian domestic cricket history by winning their maiden Ranji Trophy title in Hubli on February 28, 2026. The victory ended a 67-year wait and signaled the rise of a new powerhouse in Indian first-class cricket.

Playing against eight-time champions Karnataka at the KSCA Rajnagar Stadium, J&K dominated the final from the outset. After winning the toss and batting first, they piled up a mammoth 584 runs. Shubham Pundir’s composed century (121) laid the foundation, while vital contributions from the middle order ensured a daunting total.

Karnataka struggled in response and were bowled out for 293. Fast bowler Auqib Nabi delivered a match-defining spell, claiming five wickets and securing a massive 291-run first-innings lead — effectively placing one hand on the trophy.

Day 5 removed any lingering doubt. Opening batter Qamran Iqbal produced a magnificent unbeaten 160, while Sahil Lotra registered his maiden first-class century with 101*. Their partnership drained Karnataka’s hopes as the lead swelled to 633. Captain Paras Dogra eventually declared, leaving Karnataka with no realistic chance.

Auqib Nabi emerged as the standout performer of the season, finishing with an astonishing 60 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 12.56 and earning Player of the Series honors. Shubham Pundir’s first-innings century earned him Player of the Match.

The final day atmosphere in Hubli was electric, with thousands of fans in attendance and celebrations erupting as the handshake confirmed the historic triumph. The J&K squad celebrated in the middle of the ground, waving their flag and soaking in a moment decades in the making.

The team’s transformation has been credited to structural improvements in coaching and player development over recent years, instilling belief and discipline within the squad. Captain Paras Dogra, overcome with emotion, described the triumph as the biggest moment of his life.

More than just a cricket victory, this triumph symbolizes the expanding depth of Indian domestic cricket and the emergence of new regional forces. After heartbreak in last season’s quarter-final, Jammu & Kashmir returned stronger, hungrier, and determined.

A 67-year wait has ended. Jammu & Kashmir are champions of India.

Final Scorecard: J&K 584 & 342/4 dec. drew with Karnataka 293 — Jammu & Kashmir won on first-innings lead.
