CTO Andrew Bosworth announced this exciting development during a press briefing at the World Economic Forum. The models, developed by the Meta Superintelligence Labs team formed last year, show significant promise in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

Bosworth mentioned that the team is only six months into their work, yet they are already seeing favorable results. While he did not specify which models were delivered, reports indicate that Meta is working on a text AI model codenamed Avocado and an image and video-focused model codenamed Mango, both expected to launch in the first quarter of the year.

The announcement comes at a time when Meta is striving to strengthen its position in the highly competitive AI landscape. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been actively reshaping the company's AI leadership and investing heavily to attract top talent, hoping to reclaim lost ground against competitors like Google.

Despite facing criticism about the performance of its previous models, Bosworth remains optimistic about the company’s future. He highlighted that there is still considerable work to be done post-training to ensure the models are usable for both internal purposes and by consumers. The next two years are crucial, as Meta aims to bring more consumer-focused AI products to market.

Looking ahead, Bosworth anticipates that 2026 and 2027 will see clearer trends in consumer AI, driven by current advancements that can address everyday queries. The focus is not just on creating models but also on making them applicable for practical use in daily life, especially in family settings.

Meta is also marketing AI-equipped Ray-Ban Display glasses but has recently paused their international expansion to prioritize fulfilling orders in the U.S. This strategic move reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring that its innovative products reach consumers effectively.

As Meta continues to invest in AI technology, the next couple of years will be pivotal in shaping its future and potentially leading the charge in consumer AI innovation.
