Samsung Revives Galaxy S26 Plus Amid S25 Edge Struggles

13 Oct, 2025

Samsung is facing challenges with its latest smartphone offerings, particularly the Galaxy S25 Edge. Despite high expectations, this model has not performed well in the market, prompting the company to reconsider its plans for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, particularly the S26 Plus. Initially, there were rumors suggesting that Samsung might drop the S26 Plus in favor of a new, slimmer model known as the Galaxy S26 Edge. However, a recent report indicates a shift back to focusing on the S26 Plus due to disappointing sales figures.

The report from South Korean publication The Elec highlights that Samsung had initially planned to launch three models in the Galaxy S26 series: a standard version, an Edge variant, and an Ultra model. However, the sluggish sales of the S25 Edge have forced the company to rethink its strategy. Insiders from the parts industry have revealed that development on the “M Plus” model is already underway, suggesting that Samsung may introduce a Plus variant alongside the other models they are working on.

Sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge have been underwhelming since its launch, leading Samsung to significantly reduce its production targets. Reports indicate that production volumes for the S25 Edge will be cut to the low 300,000s for the last quarter of the year, a stark contrast to the Galaxy S25 Plus, which had a production target of around 500,000 units. This drastic reduction in production is a clear signal of the phone's poor market performance.

Additionally, the Galaxy S25 Edge has faced criticism for its design. Packed with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the phone struggles under heavy usage due to its slim profile, which leads to overheating and throttling. Compromises were made in camera capabilities, with the absence of a telephoto lens and a limited battery capacity of just 3,900mAh, making it difficult for users to rely on it for a full day’s use.

As Samsung navigates these challenges, the decision to revive the Galaxy S26 Plus could be a strategic move to regain consumer trust and interest in its flagship lineup. With the tech market becoming increasingly competitive, the company’s ability to adapt and innovate will be crucial in maintaining its position.
