US Tariffs: Limited Impact on India, New Export Opportunities
The US plans to impose tariffs might not significantly hurt India, as only select sectors will be affected. NITI Aayog's Pravakar Sahoo stated that this could even open up new opportunities for Indian exporters. Compared to Mexico, China, and Canada—who make up a large portion of US imports—India is in a strong position. Historical data shows that similar tariffs have previously benefited countries like India, allowing them to increase exports. With ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement, India aims to boost trade with the US to $500 billion by 2030.
