Yogi's Bold Steps for UP's Defence Corridor and Ganga Expressway
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is taking decisive steps to enhance industrial development in Uttar Pradesh, particularly focusing on the Defence Industrial Corridor. In a recent meeting, he directed officials to cancel land allotments if investors do not commence work within three years. This approach aims to prevent land hoarding and ensure that allocated resources are used effectively.
Adityanath emphasized the importance of establishing a transparent monitoring system to track land use and investor progress. He stated, “If an investor fails to utilise the allotted land within three years, the allocation should automatically be cancelled.” This measure is designed to encourage genuine development and timely execution of projects.
Officials reported that approximately Rs 30,819 crore worth of investment proposals have been received for the corridor, with 5,039 acres of land already acquired. Several companies have started operations, but the focus remains on converting these commitments into actual manufacturing and job creation.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister called for the establishment of skill development centres at key locations within the corridor, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh, and Chitrakoot. These centres aim to train local youth in technical roles related to defence production, linking their skills to industry opportunities and promoting regional self-reliance.
On the infrastructure front, Adityanath highlighted the significance of expressways as the backbone of Uttar Pradesh's economy. He urged officials to expedite the Ganga Expressway construction, with a target completion date set for December. This expressway is seen as crucial for enhancing connectivity and boosting economic activities in the region.
The review meeting also discussed proposed extensions and new projects aimed at improving connections across the state. Adityanath instructed planners to align new expressways with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) network to avoid duplication and ensure an integrated road system.
Finally, officials assured that the implementation of these initiatives would be closely monitored, aligning progress with land-use milestones to ensure that infrastructure investments translate into jobs and regional development.
