Nifty 50 Opening Prediction for April 3, 2026: Gap-Down Likely as US-Iran Tensions Shake Global Markets

The Nifty 50 is set for a cautious and potentially gap-down opening on Friday, April 3, 2026, weighed down by escalating geopolitical tensions, persistent FII selling, and a broad-based decline across Asian equity markets.

Thursday's Close

The Nifty 50 ended Thursday's session at 22,267.85 — a sharp fall of 411 points or 1.81% from its previous close of 22,679.40. The index opened at 22,383.40, made a brief high of 22,394.65, but could not hold gains, sliding to a session low of 22,182.55 amid intensifying selling across PSU banks, pharma, and auto stocks. Broader market breadth also remained weak throughout the day.

GIFT Nifty Pre-Market Signal

GIFT Nifty futures were quoting in the range of 22,303–22,473 on Thursday, well below Wednesday's settlement levels. This indicates a possible gap-down or weak opening for Nifty on April 3, with the index likely to open in the 22,200–22,300 zone unless overnight global cues improve significantly.

Global Cues

The primary trigger for Thursday's selloff was US President Donald Trump's announcement regarding fresh aggressive military strikes against Iran. This escalation rattled global risk appetite, sending Asian markets sharply lower. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 1.8%, South Korea's KOSPI plunged 3.42%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.96%, and Shanghai's SSE Composite slipped 0.32%. Crude oil prices remained elevated, a key macro concern for India given its heavy reliance on energy imports.

FII & DII Activity

FII outflows continue to be a structural headwind. Foreign institutional investors sold ₹8,331 crore worth of equities on April 1 alone. On the domestic side, DIIs purchased ₹7,172 crore in the same session, providing partial support at lower levels. India VIX edged lower intraday by 2.76%, suggesting some easing of near-term volatility fears, but broader anxiety remains intact.

Technical Outlook

Nifty 50 has decisively broken below the critical 22,300 support, shifting the short-term bias firmly bearish. RSI is approaching oversold territory while MACD continues to signal active selling pressure. The immediate support cluster lies at 22,000–22,100; a sustained breach below this could accelerate a slide toward 21,750. On the upside, 22,500 is the first meaningful resistance, followed by the key psychological zone of 23,000 — which must be reclaimed for any credible recovery.

Key Levels for April 3: Support: 22,100 | 21,750 Resistance: 22,500 | 23,000 Expected Opening Range: 22,100–22,400

Traders are advised to remain cautious and maintain a sell-on-rise stance unless the index sustains above 22,500 with strong buying volume.
