RBI Boosts Gold Loans: Stocks Soar!
Gold finance stocks surged on June 6 after RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced an increase in the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio for gold loans under ₹2.5 lakh from 75% to 85%. This change gives non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) more lending flexibility, leading to a rise in stocks of companies like Muthoot Finance and Manappuram Finance by 2-7%. Additionally, small-ticket gold loans will now require less paperwork, speeding up processing for lenders. The RBI also cut the repo rate, promoting liquidity in the banking system, which could further boost credit availability.
