Sebi's Upcoming Regulatory Changes: What to Expect

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is set to meet on June 18 to discuss important regulatory proposals, including a significant shift in how Real Estate and Infrastructure Investment Trusts (REITs and InvITs) are classified as equity. This change aims to boost their inclusion in equity indices and enhance mutual fund investments in these areas. Additionally, Sebi is considering simplifying regulations for Qualified Institutional Placements (QIPs) and allowing Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) to offer co-investment opportunities. Other proposals include easing compliance for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) and creating a separate delisting mechanism for government companies.
