Trump's Tariffs: India's Electronics Industry at a Crossroads

As US President Donald Trump imposes new tariffs on several countries, India's electronics manufacturers see both challenges and opportunities. While the 27% tariff on Indian exports to the US could increase costs, it is lower compared to the 54% tariff on China and 46% on Vietnam. This situation allows India to remain competitive in the global market. The domestic electronics production has surged from Rs 1.9 lakh crore in FY15 to Rs 9.52 lakh crore in FY24. However, India still needs to improve its electronics design and component manufacturing. A strong trade agreement with the US could boost exports significantly in the coming years.
