Abhinav Kashyap's Shocking Claims on Dabangg Sequel

11 Sep, 2025

Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, known for directing the iconic film Dabangg, has recently opened up about his challenging experience with Salman Khan's family. In an interview, Kashyap revealed that after the success of Dabangg, he felt sidelined and uncredited for his work. He claims that the Khan family wanted to take full credit for the film, which they viewed as a landmark in their careers.

Kashyap shared that during the marketing of Dabangg, he was intentionally pushed out, and the family aimed to promote Arbaaz Khan as the director for the sequel, Dabangg 2. “Once they realized the film was a hit, everyone wanted recognition, and I was excluded,” he explained. This exclusion wasn’t just a simple oversight; Kashyap felt it was a deliberate strategy to diminish his role.

He expressed that the Khan family wanted a "slave kind of director" who would follow their commands without question. “They would leverage my creativity, steal credit, and make money off my work,” he lamented. Kashyap felt that this pattern was evident even in the first film, leading him to believe a similar scenario would repeat in the sequel.

Upon discussing his later project, Besharam, he noted how the dynamics shifted. While Dabangg was celebrated, Besharam faced harsh criticism and failed at the box office. “The blame for Besharam's failure fell entirely on me, while the success of Dabangg was claimed solely by the others,” he said, reflecting on the unfairness he faced in the industry.

Kashyap's experience highlights the darker side of Bollywood, where credit and recognition can often be manipulated. He stated, “In both films, I felt the repercussions of others’ decisions.” Despite the setbacks, he seems to have found humor in the situation, saying he now looks back at these events with a sense of laughter and resilience. Ultimately, Kashyap’s story sheds light on the complexities of filmmaking and the relationships within the industry.
