27 Jan, 2026

Bihar's cricket team made headlines with a remarkable victory, defeating Manipur by a staggering 568 runs in the Ranji Trophy Plate final. This impressive triumph has not only earned them a place back in the Elite Group but also showcased their immense potential for the upcoming seasons. The match was held in Patna, where Bihar's players exhibited skill and determination throughout.

Opener Piyush Singh was the star of the show, scoring an incredible double century in the second innings. His unbeaten 216 runs off 322 balls set a formidable target for Manipur, leading Bihar to declare their second innings at 505 for 6. Alongside Singh, captain Sakibul Gani and Bipin Saurabh contributed significantly with centuries in the first innings, helping Bihar set a massive total of 522 runs.

Manipur, struggling to keep up, was bowled out for 264 in the first innings. In their second innings, they faced a relentless attack from Bihar's bowlers. Suraj Kashyap and Himanshu Singh both claimed three wickets, dismantling Manipur's batting lineup that crumbled to 195. The match ended on the fifth day, with Bihar's bowlers securing a convincing win.

This victory is particularly sweet for Bihar, whose journey in the Ranji Trophy has seen ups and downs. After a brief stint in the Elite Group during the 2022-23 season, they found themselves back in the Plate Group last year. However, this win marks a new beginning for the team, now focusing on rebuilding under the leadership of Gani.

Alongside veteran players, young talent like Vaibhav Suryavanshi is emerging, hinting at a promising future for Bihar cricket. The team is not just celebrating this victory, but also looking ahead to maintain their position in the Elite Group and perform well in upcoming tournaments.

Earlier this month, Bihar also celebrated success in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where they defeated Manipur in the final, further solidifying their status as a rising force in Indian domestic cricket. With newfound confidence and skill, Bihar aims to make a lasting impact in the world of cricket.
