Celebrating Padma Awards 2026 in Indian Cinema
The Padma Awards 2026 showcased the richness of Indian cinema by honoring remarkable figures in the industry. This year’s awards ceremony had a special emotional touch as it recognized the late Dharmendra by conferring him with the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. His beloved wife, Hema Malini, received the award on his behalf, creating a poignant moment that highlighted their enduring legacy together.
In addition to Dharmendra, the awards celebrated the talents of many other stalwarts from the entertainment industry. Notably, Satish Shah was awarded the Padma Shri, while renowned adman Piyush Pandey received the Padma Bhushan. The event also recognized the contributions of artists from diverse backgrounds, including Yumnam Jatra Singh from Manipur and R. Krishnan from Tamil Nadu, both honored with the Padma Shri.
Among the notable recipients of the Padma Bhushan were popular singer Alka Yagnik and Malayalam superstar Mammootty. Their contributions to the Indian film and music industry have left an indelible mark, and their recognition is well-deserved. Other esteemed artists such as Telugu actors Rajendra Prasad and Murali Mohan, multi-lingual star R. Madhavan, Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, and singer Tripti Mukherjee were also conferred the Padma Shri, making it a grand total of 44 awards presented this year.
Hema Malini shared her feelings with HT City ahead of the ceremony, expressing her happiness and pride over Dharmendra's recognition. She mentioned, “It's an emotional moment for me. Ahana is with me, Esha wanted to come but could not make it here. The entire family is happy.” Her reflections reveal the deep emotional connections families share with their legacies, especially in the arts.
