Celina Jaitly's Petition Dismissed by Delhi High Court

17 Mar, 2026

The Delhi High Court has recently dismissed a petition filed by actress Celina Jaitly concerning her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly. Vikrant has been detained in the United Arab Emirates since September 6, 2024. The reasons for his detention are linked to alleged national security concerns, although the exact charges have not been made public.

The case was heard by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, who noted that Vikrant had already been granted consular access. Despite this, he declined to accept any legal assistance. Interestingly, a law firm even offered to represent him free of charge, but Vikrant refused their help as well.

Vikrant's wife has also expressed her desire for privacy, requesting that the details of the case not be made public. This highlights the sensitive nature of the situation and the personal struggles the family is facing amid legal proceedings.

The court noted that state authorities are still in consultation with Vikrant and are continuing their efforts to resolve the situation. Nevertheless, the court concluded that, given the circumstances and developments in the case, there was no reason to keep the petition pending. As a result, the petition has been disposed of.

This case has raised significant concerns regarding the rights of Indian citizens detained abroad, especially in contexts related to national security. It also brings to light the challenges families face when their loved ones are involved in legal troubles in foreign countries. The implications of this case could resonate beyond just the Jaitly family, affecting perceptions of the Indian government’s support for its citizens overseas.

As the situation unfolds, it will be important to monitor how the authorities proceed and whether Vikrant will eventually receive the legal assistance he seems to need.
