Dhurandhar: Unveiling the Real Story Behind the Film

13 Jan, 2026

The upcoming film "Dhurandhar," directed by Aditya Dhar, has become a topic of much speculation and intrigue in India. Initially, there were rumors that the character played by Ranveer Singh was based on the real-life hero, Late Major Mohit Sharma. However, Aditya Dhar clarified that the character is not inspired by Major Sharma, leading to a legal challenge from the soldier's family who sought a stay on the film's release. The Delhi High Court intervened and allowed the film to proceed after reviewing it, stating no similarities existed between the film and Major Sharma's life.

In light of these developments, many are speculating that the narrative of "Dhurandhar" may actually revolve around Operation Lyari. This operation, conducted by the Pakistani government, is known as one of the largest covert operations in the country’s history. The area of Lyari has a complex history, being neglected during the British Raj and later becoming a center for drug trafficking with various gang rivalries.

A notable figure in the film is Chaudhary Aslam Khan, played by Sanjay Dutt. He was a police officer instrumental in creating the Lyari Task Force, aimed at eradicating the drug lords and criminal activities in the area. His battle against notorious gangsters like Rehman Dakait and Uzair Baloch marked a significant chapter in the fight against organized crime in Pakistan. The film hints at this tumultuous backdrop, showcasing the violence that plagued Lyari for decades.

Moreover, the character played by R. Madhavan bears a striking resemblance to India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval. Doval's remarkable career includes significant contributions to Indian intelligence, including resolving hijacking incidents and playing a key role in Operation Bluestar. This connection adds a layer of Indian context to the film, highlighting the fine line between covert operations and national security.

"Dhurandhar" is set to release on December 5, 2023, and features a stellar cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Akshaye Khanna. As the film draws closer to its release, audiences are eager to see how these real-life figures and events have been woven into the narrative, sparking discussions about heroism, morality, and the complexities of covert operations.
