Diljit Dosanjh Stays Positive Amid Controversy
Diljit Dosanjh, the renowned Punjabi singer and actor, is currently captivating audiences with his Asia-Pacific Aura Tour. Recently, he found himself at the center of controversy due to an incident on the popular television show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, where he touched the feet of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. This act has drawn criticism from the Sikh group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which has threatened to disrupt his upcoming concert in Melbourne on November 1.
In a recent Instagram post, Diljit addressed the controversy with a heartfelt message centered on love and positivity. He emphasized that despite the criticism and trolling he faces, his focus remains on spreading love. “I will always talk about love. For me, this Earth is one. My Guru says, ‘Ik Onkar.’ I was born from this earth, I got my life from this land, and one day I will return to this soil,” he stated passionately. His commitment to love transcends any negativity directed toward him, showcasing his resilient spirit.
The threats from the SFJ come during Sikh Genocide Remembrance Month, a period dedicated to honoring the victims of the 1984 Sikh Genocide. SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun alleged that by touching Bachchan’s feet, Diljit insulted the memory of those who suffered during that tragic time. Pannun claimed that Bachchan's past actions incited violence and led to the deaths of thousands of Sikhs, thereby framing Diljit’s gesture as disrespectful to the victims and their families.
Despite the backlash, Diljit remains focused on his tour, which has already included performances in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Brisbane. He is set to perform next in Melbourne, followed by shows in Adelaide, Perth, and Auckland, before concluding the tour in Bangkok on December 7. Alongside his musical endeavors, Diljit is also gearing up for his upcoming film, Border 2, which features a star-studded cast and is set to release in January.
In a world often plagued by division and negativity, Diljit’s message of love and unity stands out. His ability to rise above criticism and promote a positive outlook resonates deeply, especially in the diverse cultural landscape of India.
