Ikkis Director Surprised by Film's Response

28 Feb, 2026

Sriram Raghavan, the acclaimed director behind "Ikkis," recently shared his thoughts on the film's reception. Despite the mixed reactions from audiences, he remains hopeful that viewers will embrace the film on OTT platforms. "We were quite baffled, actually, by the response after the film came out," he stated, emphasizing the need for audiences to connect with the emotional depth of the story.

"Ikkis" draws inspiration from classic war cinema, with films like "Ballad of a Soldier" and "Flags of Our Fathers" influencing its narrative. Raghavan aimed to prioritize human emotions, creating a film that goes beyond mere war storytelling. The film revolves around Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, a valiant soldier who was martyred at the young age of 21 during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Agastya Nanda plays the lead role of Arun Khetarpal, bringing to life the struggles and triumphs of a young hero. The film's narrative is enriched by intertwining dual stories, which Raghavan found compelling. "If it was just the story of the boy, it wouldn't have been enough," he explained, highlighting how the combination of narratives provided a fuller perspective on the events surrounding Khetarpal's life.

Released on January 1, "Ikkis" stands out not only for its powerful storytelling but also for its stellar cast, which includes veteran actor Dharmendra and talented Jaideep Ahlawat. Raghavan, known for his mastery in thrillers like "Andhadhun" and "Johnny Gaddar," brings a unique touch to this biographical drama, ensuring it resonates with audiences.

As the film finds its way to OTT platforms, Sriram Raghavan's hope is that more viewers will take the opportunity to experience "Ikkis." By showcasing the emotional journey of Arun Khetarpal, the film aims to honor the legacy of a brave soldier while touching the hearts of its audience.
