Jana Nayagan Producer Withdraws Petition Against CBFC

10 Feb, 2026

The producer of the film Jana Nayagan is making headlines as they plan to withdraw a writ petition against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the Madras High Court. This decision marks a significant turn in the journey of the film, which has been facing challenges in the certification process. The legal counsel for KVN Productions has formally communicated this intention to the court, and the matter is scheduled to be heard on February 10 before Justice PT Asha.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features a star-studded cast including Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol. The film was originally set to hit theaters on January 9, coinciding with the festive Pongal season. However, it encountered delays due to the CBFC's requirements, which included several cuts and modifications before certification. The five-member examining committee of the CBFC reviewed the film on December 19, 2025, and communicated their decision shortly after.

As per reports, the producer received feedback that the film would be certified UA 16+ with 14 cuts and necessary modifications. This prompted them to seek a legal route to contest the certification, leading to the writ petition. However, with the latest development of planning to withdraw the petition, the producer is now focusing on sending the film to the revising committee for a fresh assessment.

This shift in strategy could expedite the certification process, allowing for a timely release of Jana Nayagan, which is highly anticipated by fans. The producer's decision to withdraw the petition highlights their willingness to comply with the CBFC's recommendations while still striving to maintain the film's integrity. The upcoming hearing will determine the next steps in this evolving narrative.

Overall, the situation reflects the complexities of film certification in India, where producers often navigate a maze of regulations and expectations. As the film industry continues to grow, such developments will remain crucial in shaping the landscape of Indian cinema.
