Jurel's Stunning Century Powers India A Against Australia A

19 Sep, 2025

Dhruv Jurel showcased his immense talent in the first unofficial Test against Australia A, held at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium. His remarkable unbeaten score of 113 runs played a critical role in India A's response, as they reached 403/4 by Day 3's end. Jurel's partnership with Devdutt Padikkal, which yielded 181 runs, was pivotal in steering the team away from a precarious position.

The match faced interruptions due to rain, which made the outfield wet and delayed play for the third consecutive day. During the limited play in the first session, India A lost its overnight opener, N Jagadeesan, who scored 64 runs. Following his dismissal, B Sai Sudharsan and Padikkal managed to add 76 runs for the third wicket, with Sudharsan contributing significantly with a solid 73 off 124 balls.

Shreyas Iyer, who had been struggling to secure his place in the team, came to bat next but could only manage eight runs before being dismissed. His performance has been closely monitored, especially considering his capability against spinners in home conditions.

Despite the loss of two quick wickets, Jurel and Padikkal stabilized the innings. Jurel displayed remarkable patience and traditional technique, reaching his half-century off 117 balls. As the pressure mounted, he shifted gears, launching a counterattack that included 10 boundaries and four sixes, proving why he is considered a future star for India.

Jurel's century came off just 114 balls, showcasing his aggressive style against the Australian bowlers. He particularly targeted off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, scoring 47 runs off just 46 deliveries against him. His ability to handle pressure and deliver under challenging circumstances has drawn comparisons to Rishabh Pant, making a strong case for his inclusion in the senior team.

As the match approaches its final day, India A still trails by 129 runs. With Jurel's exceptional performance, fans and selectors alike will be keenly watching to see if he can lead the team to a strong finish.
