Kantara Chapter 1 Crosses ₹400 Crore Worldwide
Kantara Chapter 1 is creating a significant buzz at the box office, having crossed the ₹400 crore mark worldwide in just six days. This Kannada period action film, directed by Rishab Shetty, has not only captivated audiences but also surpassed the lifetime collections of popular films like KGF Chapter 1 and Vikram.
The film had an impressive opening weekend, especially in India, and has maintained its momentum throughout the week. With a slight dip on Monday, it bounced back on Tuesday, showcasing its strong appeal. In India, Kantara Chapter 1 has earned approximately ₹290.25 crore net (₹348 crore gross) within its first six days.
While the international box office performance hasn’t matched the Indian market, it still garnered over $7 million in its first week, pushing its total worldwide collection to ₹414 crore. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it comes with days still remaining in its opening week, indicating the film's potential for further growth.
On Sunday, Kantara Chapter 1 surpassed the total earnings of KGF Chapter 1, and by Tuesday, it had also outdone the first Kantara film. The sleeper hit from 2022 had previously earned ₹408 crore worldwide, a benchmark that Kantara Chapter 1 has now exceeded. Currently, it stands as the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, trailing only behind KGF Chapter 1, which grossed ₹1250 crore.
Additionally, the film has surpassed the lifetime collections of other notable films like Kamal Haasan's Vikram (₹413 crore) and the Bollywood horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (₹411 crore). With its current trajectory, there’s a possibility that Kantara Chapter 1 could be the first Indian film to cross the ₹1000 crore mark this year.
Set a thousand years before the original Kantara, this prequel showcases a gripping narrative about the struggle between the residents of Kantara and a neighboring kingdom intent on annexing their lands and resources. Alongside Rishab Shetty, the film features Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles. The film has received rave reviews from both critics and fans, solidifying its status as a must-watch in Indian cinema.
