Karisma Kapoor Rejects Sunjay Kapur's Citizenship Offer

The ongoing battle over the estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur has taken a significant turn, particularly involving his ex-wife, actress Karisma Kapoor. Recently, it was revealed that Sunjay had been facilitating an offer for Karisma and their children, Samaira and Kiaan, to obtain Portuguese citizenship. However, Karisma ultimately declined this offer, raising questions about the motives behind it.

Documents submitted in court reveal that Sunjay communicated with Karisma via WhatsApp, indicating that to acquire a Portuguese passport, she would need to renounce her Indian citizenship. Sunjay pointed out that India does not allow dual citizenship, making the decision seem even more complicated.

Karisma’s lawyer, Mahesh Jethmalani, emphasized that her refusal to give up her Indian citizenship was tied to suspicions surrounding Sunjay’s will. He highlighted that the timing of Sunjay’s efforts for Portuguese citizenship, shortly after the will was executed, raised red flags. It appeared that he was looking for ways to protect his overseas properties from inheritance tax, which would benefit all three of his children, including those from his subsequent marriages.

The estate dispute has further escalated, with allegations that Sunjay’s third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, forged his will to exclude Karisma’s children from the inheritance. Samaira and Kiaan have filed a plea in the Delhi High Court, claiming that their father had assured them of their share in the estate, which was notably absent in his final will.

During a family meeting, Priya presented a will allegedly executed in March, which has since become a point of contention. Although Karisma is not a direct plaintiff in this case, she is actively representing her children’s interests in the court proceedings. As both sides present their claims, the court has asked Priya to disclose a comprehensive list of Sunjay Kapur's assets.

This case not only highlights the complexities surrounding inheritance disputes but also the emotional turmoil experienced by families in the public eye. With multiple allegations surfacing, the Delhi High Court is set to continue hearings on this matter, adding another chapter to the saga of Sunjay Kapur's estate.
