Key Updates for April 2026:
Domestic LPG (14.2kg): Raised by ₹60/cylinder on March 7, 2026 — the first domestic hike in several months. No change since then.
Commercial LPG (19kg): Hiked sharply by ₹195.50 in Delhi on April 1 (from ₹1,884.50 to ₹2,078.50). This was the largest single-month commercial LPG jump in recent years.
5kg Chhotu Cylinder: Raised by ₹51 in early April to near ₹700 — significant for small households and Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries.
Under-Recovery: OMCs are reportedly absorbing ₹380/cylinder under-recovery on domestic LPG to keep prices affordable. Cumulative losses could hit ₹40,484 crore by May 2026 if no hike is allowed.
Why Is LPG Expensive Right Now?
Global LPG Benchmark (CP): Saudi Aramco's Contract Price for LPG is elevated due to West Asia supply tightness.
Import Dependency: India imports over 90% of its LPG from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Any disruption to Strait of Hormuz shipping routes directly impacts Indian LPG costs.
Exchange Rate: Rupee weakening to ₹93.09/$ increases import costs in INR terms.
PMUY Subsidy Check: Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries receive a subsidy per cylinder directly to their linked bank account via DBT. Subsidy is ₹200–₹300 per cylinder depending on state and income. Check subsidy status at mylpg.in.
