Navy Chief to Speak at BC Joshi Memorial Lecture 2025
Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi is set to deliver the General BC Joshi Memorial Lecture on December 1, 2025, at Savitribai Phule Pune University. This annual event, organized by the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, aims to honor the legacy of General BC Joshi, a significant figure in Indian defense studies.
The lecture will take place at 3 pm in the Swarajyarakshak Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Auditorium, which is part of the Iravati Karve Social Science Centre Complex. Admiral Tripathi will speak on the topic "Shaping India’s Future through Sea Power and Self Reliance: An Indian Naval Perspective." This important theme emphasizes the role of the Indian Navy in ensuring national development and security.
General BC Joshi had a close association with the university and contributed greatly to the field of defense studies. He was instrumental in establishing the "Chhatrapati Shivaji Chair for Policy Studies" at the university. His commitment to national integration, Indian culture, environmental conservation, and sustainable development remains influential even today.
In 1995, to commemorate General Joshi’s foresight and dedication, the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, in collaboration with the Headquarters of Southern Command, initiated the General BC Joshi Annual Memorial Lecture Series. This series has featured prominent military figures, including Admiral Karambir Singh and General Bipin Rawat, who have shared their insights on various strategic issues.
The event will be chaired by Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi and is expected to attract a large audience, including senior officials, military officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as members of the university’s Management Council and Senate. The presence of students and faculty will further enrich the discussions.
Dr. Vijay Khare, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Head of the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, has encouraged everyone to participate in this significant program. It is an opportunity to engage with critical issues affecting India’s maritime security and future.
