Raju Talikote: A Loss to Kannada Cinema
Raju Talikote, a celebrated Kannada actor and comedian, has left us at the age of 59 after suffering a heart attack in Manipal, Karnataka. He was in the city for a film shoot when he suddenly fell ill. Despite being rushed to Kasturba Hospital for emergency treatment, including angioplasty, he could not be saved and passed away on the evening of October 13, 2025.
Born on December 18, 1965, Raju Talikote started his acting career at just seven years old in his father’s theatre group, Sri Khangateshwar Natya Sangha. Growing up in a family that faced financial struggles and his mother’s illness, he took on various jobs to support his family, including working in hotels and cleaning lorries.
His breakthrough came with the play Talikotakaru Nataka, where he portrayed a character named Sumitra. Over the years, he became known for his incredible comic timing and emotional depth, performing in acclaimed plays such as Disalunki, Hoovina Angadi, and Hasiru Bale. His association with prominent theatre troupes like Sri Sharif Shivayogi Vijaya Natya Sangha helped solidify his status in the Kannada cultural landscape.
Raju had a special bond with his audience, often performing alongside his wife, Prema Talikote. He also participated in reality television, including Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7, where he gained a wider fan base, though he was evicted on Day 63.
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the Kannada film industry. Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expressed his condolences on social media, stating that Raju's contributions to the industry will be dearly missed. Raju Talikote's legacy lives on through his work, and he will always be remembered as a beloved figure in the hearts of his fans and peers alike.
His last rites are scheduled to take place in Chikka Sindagi, Vijayapura district, a testament to his roots and the impact he had on the local community. As the industry mourns, fans and fellow artists alike reflect on the joy and laughter he brought through his performances.
