Saumya Tandon Clarifies Comments on Dhurandhar
Actor Saumya Tandon, who plays the role of Ulfat Hasin in the much-anticipated film Dhurandhar, recently found herself in the spotlight. A comment she made regarding ‘heroines on beaches’ sparked rumors that she was targeting the YRF spy universe, which includes popular films like Ek Tha Tiger and Pathaan. However, Tandon quickly clarified her position, asserting that her remarks were misinterpreted.
In a response on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Saumya agreed that Dhurandhar has a male-dominated narrative. However, she firmly disagreed with the notion that the film is misogynistic. “They aren’t beaten, objectified, or shown as one of many wives, even though that society could have allowed it,” she explained. Tandon emphasized that the film’s storyline didn’t accommodate the glamorous heroines often depicted in other films, stating, “Sorry that the grain of this story doesn’t allow for glamorous heroines singing songs on exotic beaches.”
As the conversation evolved, reports began to suggest that Saumya’s comments were directed at the YRF spy universe. She quickly put those rumors to rest, stating, "And I’m not taking a jab at anyone at all. I enjoy every kind of film—romance on beaches, mountain love stories, songs, dance, everything." Her clarification underlined that while she appreciates various genres, Dhurandhar simply did not call for such elements.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, is not just another action thriller; it is inspired by real-life events, focusing on the geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan in the early 2000s. The film features a stellar cast, including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, and R. Madhavan, showcasing a gripping narrative where Singh plays Hamza Ali Mazari, an Indian who infiltrates a crime syndicate in Pakistan.
With a release date set for March 19, 2026, Dhurandhar aims to provide a fresh perspective on the spy genre, setting itself apart from the glitzy narratives often seen in mainstream cinema. As Saumya Tandon continues to clarify her stance, viewers eagerly await how the film will unfold and contribute to the evolving landscape of Indian cinema.
