Shreya Ghoshal's Evolving Music Choices

05 Mar, 2026

In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, Shreya Ghoshal shared her thoughts on the evolution of her music career, particularly reflecting on her past work, including the popular song "Chikni Chameli." While she acknowledges that she has sung some raunchy tracks, she has become increasingly selective about the songs she chooses to record.

Shreya revealed that after "Chikni Chameli," she was offered songs with lyrics that felt objectifying. One such song included lines that made her uncomfortable, such as, “make me into chicken and eat me.” She shared that she found it hard to even think about such lyrics without blushing, leading her to decline those offers. Her experiences highlight a broader concern about the portrayal of women in popular music.

During a conversation with Lilly Singh in 2025, Shreya expressed her discomfort with the idea of young girls singing lyrics that lack context and meaning. She feels embarrassed when children approach her, excitedly asking to sing her songs, unaware of what they truly represent. She remarked, “A little girl, just five or six years old, singing those lyrics, it doesn’t sound right.” This recognition of the impact of her music on young audiences has made her more conscious of the messages she conveys through her art.

Shreya Ghoshal's reflections mark a significant shift in her artistic approach. She emphasizes the fine line between being sensual and outright objectifying women, showing her growth and maturity as an artist. Shreya is now focused on delivering music that feels empowering and respectful, especially given her influence over younger generations.

In addition to her thoughtful commentary on her past work, Shreya recently released a new song, "Yahin Guzaar Doon," alongside Amaal Mallik, featuring Farrhana Bhatt in the video. Furthermore, she has announced her upcoming "The Unstoppable World Tour," which will include performances in the UK, USA, India, and Abu Dhabi, with dates yet to be revealed. This tour represents not only her musical journey but also her evolution as an artist who values the messages she shares through her music.
