Sonakshi Sinha’s Exciting Telugu Debut in Jatadhara

05 Nov, 2025

Sonakshi Sinha is all set to make her entry into Telugu cinema with the supernatural thriller Jatadhara. Directed by Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan, the film features Sudheer Babu in the lead role and Shilpa Shirodkar in a significant part. Known for her roles in popular films like Dabangg and Lootera, Sinha will portray the antagonist Dhanapisachini in this bilingual film, which is scheduled for release on November 7.

The actress expressed her immediate attraction to the film's story, describing it as dark, layered, and entirely different from her previous work. Speaking with PTI, she shared her excitement about stepping into regional cinema and collaborating with a fresh team and audience. Having previously acted in a Tamil film, Lingaa, she has always been open to regional projects but cited scheduling conflicts as a barrier in the past.

In her reflections on the Telugu film industry, Sinha praised its punctuality and work-life balance. She noted that while there are not many differences between Hindi and Telugu cinema, the latter excels in maintaining strict shooting schedules. "If you come for a shoot at nine, you cannot shoot after six - you are not allowed," she remarked, appreciating the discipline on set. This stands in contrast to the Hindi film industry, where shoots often extend late into the night.

In Jatadhara, Sinha plays a character unlike any she has portrayed before, set against the backdrop of the mystical Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, blending mythology with supernatural themes. She shared that director Venkat Kalyan gave her “complete freedom” to interpret her role, which added to the joy of her performance. “When the first shot happened, I saw childlike happiness in his eyes. He said, ‘This is my Dhanapisachini,’” she recalled fondly.

Looking ahead, Sinha expressed a desire to continue exploring various languages and genres, emphasizing her focus on collaborating with strong directors and diverse stories. With Jatadhara set to release in both Telugu and Hindi on November 7, audiences can anticipate a thrilling cinematic experience.
