Subhashree Ganguly Faces Backlash After Messi Meet
Bengali actress Subhashree Ganguly recently found herself at the center of controversy after meeting football legend Lionel Messi during his India Tour 2025 in Kolkata. The event attracted over 60,000 fans, leading to chaotic scenes at the Salt Lake Stadium due to poor crowd management. As tensions escalated, Messi had to leave the venue early, and Subhashree faced a torrent of online trolling.
In a bid to clarify her position, Subhashree took to Instagram to explain that she had received an official invitation to meet Messi. She arrived at the hotel around 8:30 am, and their meeting took place between 10:00 and 10:15 am. Subhashree mentioned that after their brief encounter, Messi's PR team asked her to accompany them to the stadium for security reasons. However, she stressed that she was not involved in the crowd management issues that unfolded later.
The actress recounted her experience at the stadium, stating that she was seated in a tent and could not see Messi when he arrived. She expressed her frustration over the backlash, questioning why she was being singled out. "Did I block anyone's view? What is my fault in this?" she asked, pointing out that other celebrities like Kareena Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan had also met Messi without facing such criticism.
Subhashree expressed her anguish over the online abuse she received, particularly the threats directed at her children. As a mother, she found it unacceptable that her family was being targeted. She highlighted the troubling trend of women attacking women online, questioning the societal norms that allow such behavior. "Is this how you've decided to treat me?" she lamented, emphasizing the need for respect and understanding.
Concluding her video, Subhashree stated that while she initially tried to ignore the criticism, the threats against her children crossed a line. She firmly condemned such behavior, declaring that she would not tolerate any threats against her family. Her experience serves as a reminder of the complexities faced by public figures, especially women, in the digital age.
