Thamma Box Office Hits ₹140 Crore in Just 8 Days
Thamma, the latest offering in the horror-comedy genre, has captured the attention of audiences across India and beyond. Starring the talented duo Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, this film has made remarkable strides at the box office, achieving a worldwide collection of ₹140 crore in just eight days.
The film's success can be attributed to its strong opening weekend, followed by a significant boost in collections during the weekdays, particularly due to the Chathh holiday in certain regions of India. On Tuesday, Thamma saw a 28% increase in collections, earning ₹5.50 crore domestically compared to ₹4.25 crore on Monday. This surge has brought its total net earnings to ₹101.10 crore (₹121.25 crore gross) in India alone.
Thamma is now the fourth film from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MCHU) to cross the coveted 100-crore mark, joining films like Stree and its sequel. Its international box office performance is also noteworthy; although the Diwali release did not significantly help it gain traction overseas initially, the film has since earned over $2 million in international markets, with daily collections averaging around $250,000.
As the third-highest-grossing film in the MCHU, Thamma has surpassed the lifetime earnings of Munjya, which grossed ₹130 crore earlier this year. The film is now eyeing to surpass the earnings of the original Stree, which made ₹182 crore, although the record-breaking collection of Stree 2 at ₹857 crore remains a formidable target.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma boasts a stellar cast that includes Nawazuddin Siddiqui and a special appearance by Varun Dhawan, reprising his role from Bhediya and Stree 2. Viewers and critics alike have praised the film for its humor and engaging performances, which have resonated well with audiences.
With its success, Thamma not only cements its place in the box office but also sets the stage for future projects in the MCHU, including anticipated sequels like Bhediya 2 and Shakti Shalini. Audiences can look forward to more entertaining films from this universe, keeping the momentum of horror-comedy alive in Indian cinema.
