The Girlfriend Box Office: Rashmika's Low Opening

08 Nov, 2025

The Girlfriend, featuring Rashmika Mandanna, has made its debut in theaters, but the box office numbers tell a different story. Despite receiving positive reviews from both audiences and critics, the film has managed to collect only Rs 1.3 crore on its opening day. This disappointing figure marks it as Rashmika's lowest opener in the Telugu film industry to date.

The film showed a 16.90% occupancy rate across 838 screens. The morning shows started off weak at 12.83% but saw a slight increase in the afternoon and evening. However, it only peaked during the night shows, ending at 23.55%. Bengaluru had the highest number of shows, but with only 9% occupancy, it was a letdown. Hyderabad performed better with 26% occupancy from 258 shows. In the Hindi market, the film had a limited release across 99 screens, garnering an occupancy of just 6.89%.

Rashmika has had a stellar year in 2025, with several hits already under her belt. She started the year with Chhaava, which became the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, followed by other successful projects. However, The Girlfriend's opening day figures are modest, especially when compared to her previous Telugu films. For instance, Aadavallu Meeku Johaarlu had a first-day collection of Rs 1.56 crore, while Sita Ramam earned Rs 3.05 crore.

While The Girlfriend's opening is below expectations, it still outperformed some smaller Telugu releases. For example, the film Beauty collected only Rs 1 lakh, while Hatya earned Rs 24 lakhs. Interestingly, Anushka Shetty's Ghaati, despite being a box office failure, managed to earn Rs 2 crore on its opening day.

The film now faces tough competition with several other new releases. Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi's Haq opened slightly better with Rs 1.65 crore, while Milap Zaveri’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat continues to perform well in its third week. Additionally, Rashmika's Diwali release Thamma is still drawing audiences and is expected to cross Rs 130 crore by the weekend. The crowded box office landscape poses a challenge for The Girlfriend, and it remains to be seen whether its positive reviews will translate into better numbers over the weekend.
