31 Oct, 2025

Yami Gautam is gearing up for the release of her new film, Haq, which draws inspiration from the historic Shah Bano case. The film has garnered attention for its strong narrative and has faced no censorship issues in the UAE, making it accessible for viewers aged 15 and above. Yami highlighted this in her recent conversation with Times Now, emphasizing that the film is made with respect for all faiths.

The Shah Bano case, which became a landmark legal battle in India, revolved around the rights of Muslim women to receive maintenance after divorce. This case, which reached the Supreme Court in 1985, marked a significant moment in the fight for women's rights in India. The film Haq aims to dramatize the events surrounding this pivotal case, showcasing the struggles and triumphs of Shah Bano Begum.

Yami Gautam plays the role of Shazia Bano, while Emraan Hashmi features as her husband, Lawyer Abbas Khan. The film, directed by Suparn Varma, promises to deliver a compelling narrative that resonates with contemporary audiences, especially in the Indian context where discussions about women's rights and community laws are increasingly relevant.

In her interview, Yami also expressed the importance of creating films that do not aim to antagonize any particular community. She stated, "This film is not here to antagonize anyone from any faith," reinforcing the message that the film is a reflection of societal issues rather than a targeted commentary.

As the release date of November 7 approaches, anticipation builds for Haq. The movie is produced by Junglee Pictures in collaboration with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios. With its powerful storyline and a talented cast, Haq is expected to spark conversations around the rights of women and the complexities of personal law in India.
