Adani Power Reduces Electricity Supply to Bangladesh Over $846 Million Unpaid Dues

Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), a subsidiary of Adani Power, has reduced its electricity supply to Bangladesh by half, providing only 700 MW from its 1,496 MW plant due to unpaid bills totaling $846 million. This cutback began Thursday night, leaving Bangladesh with a power shortfall exceeding 1,600 MW. Adani Power recently notified the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) to clear outstanding dues by October 30, warning of supply suspension under their Power Purchase Agreement if bills remained unpaid. The PDB cited increased charges from Adani, rising to over $22 million weekly, with PDB able to pay around $18 million, which has caused the dues to accumulate.
