AI Summit 2026: Global AI Innovations and Controversies

19 Feb, 2026

The AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi is a landmark event inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This summit, being the first of its kind in the 'Global South,' aims to bring together leaders, technology executives, and innovators from across the world to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.

The event spans multiple arenas, showcasing international collaboration in the AI sector with participation from over 110 countries. Delegates include representatives from nations such as Australia, Japan, and Germany, highlighting the summit's global significance.

During the summit, Galgotias University found itself in hot water for showcasing a Chinese-made RoboDog as its own innovation. This incident sparked humor and criticism on social media, especially from notable comedians who pointed out the absurdity of the situation. In response, the university issued an apology, clarifying that their representative was misinformed about the product's origins.

IT Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized the importance of transparency in exhibitions, stating that misrepresentation would not be tolerated. The university's misstep drew attention away from the positive aspects of the summit, which aims to foster genuine innovations in AI.

The summit is not just focused on technology but also on ensuring that AI is developed responsibly. With over 700 planned sessions, discussions range from AI governance to ethical considerations, reflecting India's commitment to a sustainable and inclusive AI ecosystem.

Prime Minister Modi also met with international leaders to strengthen diplomatic ties and discuss collaborative efforts in technology and security. Notable discussions included India's growing role in the AI landscape and its ambitions towards becoming a top player in the global AI race.

The event has generated tremendous public interest, leading to an extension of the expo by one additional day due to the overwhelming response. This highlights the enthusiasm among Indian youth and the public towards AI and its potential to solve real-world problems.

While controversies like the RoboDog incident may arise, the overarching goal of the AI Impact Summit remains clear: to promote a safe, inclusive, and impactful AI ecosystem that benefits everyone. As India continues to position itself as a leader in AI, events like this are crucial for fostering innovation and collaboration on a global scale.
