Air India Fined ₹30 Lakh Over Passenger's Death Due to Lack of Wheelchair Assistance

Air India was fined ₹30 lakh by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) after an 80-year-old passenger passed away at Mumbai's airport as he wasn't provided with a wheelchair. Despite the airline's offer to wait for assistance, the passenger chose to walk with his wife, who was in a wheelchair.

DGCA found Air India in violation of regulations regarding passenger assistance, leading to the imposed fine. An advisory was also issued to all airlines, emphasizing the importance of adequate wheelchair provision during embarking and disembarking.
