Amazon Launches Web Version of Alexa+

07 Jan, 2026

Amazon has recently launched Alexa+, its revamped AI voice assistant, now available on the web for select users. This new digital assistant was officially introduced at CES 2026, held from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alexa+ allows users to ask more complex questions, create AI-generated content, and even manage tasks like planning trip itineraries.

In a blog post, Amazon highlighted that Alexa+ is designed not just to provide information, but to take action. It can assist with various tasks, such as managing to-do lists, updating family calendars, and controlling smart home devices. The AI upgrade also enables the assistant to provide answers based on user context and recall previous interactions.

Currently, the web version of Alexa+ is available to Early Access customers who must log into their Amazon accounts to start using it. Meanwhile, Alexa+ is already present on Amazon's Echo devices, and over 600 million Alexa-enabled devices have been sold worldwide.

To enhance user experience, Amazon is also redesigning the Alexa mobile app to make it more 'agent-forward'. This move comes in response to user requests for a more accessible AI assistant that doesn't require an Amazon smart home device.

As tech companies pivot towards AI-driven innovations, Alexa+ is launching at a crucial time. The assistant is built around large language models, making it more conversational and capable of understanding user context better than ever before. In a similar vein, Google recently launched AI features for its smart home products, while Apple is set to release an upgraded Siri.

According to Daniel Rausch, Amazon's VP of Alexa and Echo, 76 percent of what customers use Alexa+ for is unique to this assistant, emphasizing its capabilities in handling specific tasks. Users can even send photographs of family recipes to Alexa and receive real-time assistance while cooking.

The new Alexa+ web platform includes a sidebar for easy navigation to frequently used features. Users can manage their schedules, meal planning, and smart home controls, all while maintaining a conversation with Alexa.

Moreover, to provide contextualized answers, users will need to grant access to their emails, calendars, and personal documents. Alexa+ can extract details from documents, add appointments to calendars, and keep track of important events, making it an invaluable tool for daily life.

Amazon has also integrated more services like Expedia and Yelp into Alexa+, enhancing its functionality. With these advancements, Alexa+ is positioned to redefine how users interact with technology in their homes.
