Amit Passi's Stunning T20 Debut Century

09 Dec, 2025

Amit Passi, the wicket-keeper for Baroda, made headlines with a remarkable performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring a 44-ball century in his debut match. This event took place during the last league stage match of SMAT 2025-26 in Hyderabad, where he stepped in for Jitesh Sharma, who was on national duty against South Africa.

At just 26, Passi opened the batting against Services and displayed an aggressive batting style. He reached his half-century in a mere 24 balls, showcasing his ability to score quickly and put pressure on the bowlers. As he approached his century, he maintained his momentum, hitting a series of boundaries that thrilled the crowd.

Passi's century came in just 44 balls, hitting nine sixes and ten fours during his innings. With a final score of 114 runs, he not only became the third Indian to score a T20 hundred on debut but also equaled the world record for the highest score by a debutant in T20 history. His explosive innings played a crucial role in Baroda setting a formidable total of 220 runs for five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

This achievement is particularly notable as Passi had struggled in the Baroda Premier League, scoring only 100 runs in six innings previously. His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy not only highlights his talent but also shows his potential to be a significant player for Baroda and Indian cricket in the future.

Despite Passi's extraordinary innings, Baroda faced a tough challenge in their group stage and was already out of contention for the Super League stage. Even a resounding win against Services would not be enough to secure their place, as they needed favorable outcomes from other matches in their group.

Amit Passi’s record-breaking debut has made him a player to watch in Indian cricket, and fans will be eager to see how he builds on this incredible start to his career.
