Apple iPhone Air: Slimmest Smartphone at $999
Apple recently introduced the iPhone Air at its much-anticipated “Awe Dropping” event, and it has already captured the attention of tech enthusiasts in India. At just 5.6mm thick, the iPhone Air is now recognized as the slimmest smartphone in the world. This sleek device features a 6.5-inch ProMotion XDR OLED screen, making it slightly smaller than the iPhone Plus models it replaces, but still visually stunning.
Weighing only 145 grams, the iPhone Air is designed with a grade 5 titanium frame, making it not only lightweight but also incredibly durable. Apple prides itself on the durability of this new model, claiming it is tougher than any other smartphone they have produced. Despite its thin profile, the iPhone Air is equipped with an Action button, enabling users to access various functions quickly and efficiently.
Under the hood, the iPhone Air is powered by Apple’s new A19 Pro chipset and offers storage options of up to 1TB. This powerful combination ensures that users can store their favorite apps, photos, and videos without worrying about running out of space. The device also includes Apple’s C1x modem, which boasts twice the speed of the previous model.
In terms of photography, the iPhone Air features a single 48MP fusion camera capable of taking 12MP 2x telephoto shots. For selfies, there is an 18MP front camera with Center Stage support, making group selfies a breeze without needing to rotate the phone.
However, to achieve such a slim design, Apple had to make certain compromises. The USB-C port is not centered, and the speaker cutouts are fewer than in previous models. Additionally, the iPhone Air does not come with a physical SIM slot; it only supports eSIM technology, which may require some adjustment for Indian users.
Another noteworthy aspect is the device's battery life. The slim design necessitated a smaller battery, which may not last a full day for moderate to heavy users. To tackle this potential issue, Apple has introduced a new Adaptive Power Saver mode in iOS 26. For those who need additional battery life, Apple has also launched a low-profile MagSafe battery case.
Scheduled for release on September 19, the iPhone Air is priced at $999, approximately translating to Rs 1 Lakh in India. It will be available in four appealing colors: space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue. Alongside the phone, the MagSafe battery will retail for $99, and the bumper case is priced at $39, rounding out a compelling package for consumers.
