Bangladesh Asks India to Send Sheikh Hasina Back for Trial

The Bangladesh interim government has formally requested India to return ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5 after her 16-year rule ended due to massive protests. Sheikh Hasina faces charges from Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity and genocide. A diplomatic note and extradition request were sent, citing an existing treaty between the nations. Interim Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus expressed concern over her public statements from India, which he claimed were causing tensions. Hasina has accused Yunus of leading a fascist regime, erasing democratic rights.
