Bareilly Violence: Key Mastermind Arrested

29 Sep, 2025

In a significant turn of events, the Uttar Pradesh Police have apprehended Nadeem, a crucial figure behind the recent violence in Bareilly. Arrested in Shahjahanpur, Nadeem is known to be a close aide of Tauqeer Raza Khan, a local cleric and the head of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council. The police had been actively searching for him since the violence broke out, and he had been on the run following the clashes.

According to police reports, Nadeem was using a WhatsApp group to mobilize crowds for protests, directly instigating the unrest. His phone, which has been recovered, is expected to provide vital evidence regarding his involvement and the orchestration of the violence. Officials revealed that Nadeem was planning to flee Uttar Pradesh after inciting the riots but was intercepted by law enforcement before he could escape.

The violent protests erupted after a large crowd gathered outside a mosque in Bareilly, angered by the cancellation of a demonstration that Tauqeer Raza had planned. The protest was meant to support the 'I love Muhammad' campaign, and tensions escalated when police reacted to the gathering. A total of 40 individuals, including Raza, have been arrested in connection with the incident, facing various charges such as inciting violence and vandalism.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a strong stance against the violence, warning that those attempting to disrupt peace during Hindu festivals would face severe consequences. He emphasized that the state government would not tolerate any acts of anarchy disguised as faith-based protests. His remarks highlighted the government's commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly during sensitive times.

Adityanath noted that the unrest coincided with the Sharadiya Navratra, a significant Hindu festival. He asserted that any attempts to create chaos during this period would not be accepted, drawing parallels to mythological demons to illustrate the gravity of the situation. The CM’s firm response reflects the administration's intention to prevent future disturbances and ensure community harmony.

As the investigation continues, the involvement of religious leaders in the unrest raises critical questions about communal tensions in the region. The police's actions and the government’s stance signal a broader message about the need for peace and order in society, especially in a diverse nation like India.
