BJP Dominates MCD By-Elections 2025

04 Dec, 2025

The 2025 MCD by-elections held in Delhi have stirred the political landscape, with the BJP emerging victorious by winning 7 out of the 12 contested wards. The elections, conducted on November 30, saw a voter turnout of 38.51%, indicating the public's interest in local governance. The BJP received 45.9% of the total votes, which is over 10 percentage points higher than its nearest rival, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which secured 3 wards.

Delhi BJP chief, Virendra Sachdeva, expressed optimism regarding the results, emphasizing that local issues drive municipal elections. He perceived the victory as a clear message from the people of Delhi, highlighting their desire for the BJP to continue its governance in the city. According to him, this mandate reflects the faith the citizens have in the party's capabilities.

On the other hand, AAP's leader, Arvind Kejriwal, acknowledged the party's performance and noted that the support for AAP is strengthening among Delhi's populace. He stated that even within a short span of 10 months, the trust in AAP is rapidly returning, hinting at a shift towards positive politics.

The results revealed the BJP's stronghold in key areas such as Greater Kailash and Chandni Chowk, while AAP showed resilience by winning in wards like Naraina and Mundka. This electoral battle was a litmus test for both parties, showcasing the shifting allegiances among voters in the capital.

Moreover, the Congress and the All India Forward Bloc managed to secure one seat each, indicating a fragmented opposition. The voter turnout and the outcomes of these by-elections will play a crucial role in shaping the strategies of both major parties moving forward, as they prepare for the larger political contests ahead.

As Delhi continues to evolve politically, the implications of these results will be felt across the city's governance and public policy. The focus on local issues and community needs will likely become even more pronounced in the upcoming months as both parties vie for public support.
