Bomb Threat Arrest During Ganesh Visarjan in Mumbai

06 Sep, 2025

Mumbai Police has made a significant arrest in connection with bomb threat calls made during the Ganesh Visarjan festival. Ashwin Kumar Supra, a 50-year-old man from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has been taken into custody for sending alarming messages about a potential terrorist threat. He claimed that 14 terrorists had entered Mumbai with 400 kilograms of RDX, hidden in 34 vehicles. This prompted the police to issue a citywide alert as they prepared for the influx of devotees celebrating the festival.

The threat message was sent to the traffic police’s WhatsApp helpline, which has been a platform for similar threats in the past, many of which turned out to be hoaxes. The Mumbai Police have stated that, while the initial investigation suggests this may also be a false alarm, they are taking the matter seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and other agencies have joined in to ensure the safety of citizens.

In light of the approaching Ganesh Chaturthi, when thousands of people are expected to immerse idols in water bodies, the police have ramped up security at key locations throughout the city. Authorities have reassured the public that there is no need for panic and have urged residents to remain vigilant. They are advised to report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.

The police registered a case against an unidentified individual under section 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal intimidation. As the festival approaches, the police are focusing on community safety, emphasizing that Mumbaikars should not believe in rumors that could create unnecessary fear.

As the city prepares for the festivities, the emphasis is on maintaining peace and ensuring that the joyous occasion of Ganesh Visarjan is celebrated safely. The police continue to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a peaceful and secure celebration.
