Boosting India's Electronics Manufacturing Potential
India is rapidly advancing in the field of electronics manufacturing, with production increasing sixfold over the past decade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the importance of ramping up the production of essential components such as chipsets, batteries, displays, and sensors to meet the growing global demand. He highlighted that international companies are seeking reliable partners, and India has the potential to emerge as a key player in this scenario.
Modi believes that by focusing on developing data centers and cloud infrastructure, India can transform itself into a global data hub. He stated that the world is generating unprecedented amounts of data, which makes data security, storage, and sovereignty critical. Strengthening these infrastructures will not only cater to domestic needs but also position India as a reliable supplier for global markets.
During the India Mobile Congress, the Prime Minister pointed out that mobile phone manufacturing has surged by 28 times, and exports have skyrocketed by 127 times since 2014. He shared that approximately 45 Indian companies are now part of the supply chain for a major mobile phone manufacturer, resulting in the creation of 350,000 jobs. This progress is not limited to just one company; many firms are now engaged in large-scale manufacturing, demonstrating India’s growing capabilities.
Moreover, India has recently launched its Made in India 4G stack, which is a significant step towards achieving technological independence. This initiative places India among the top five nations with such capabilities. The activation of 100,000 4G towers on the day of the launch enabled 20 million people to join the digital movement, showcasing the rapid expansion of connectivity.
In addition, the enactment of the new Telecommunications Act has replaced outdated regulations, creating a modern framework that aligns with 21st-century needs. Modi highlighted that India is now the world’s second-largest telecom market and ranks second in 5G deployment. Furthermore, India is among the leading nations in per-user data consumption, indicating that digital connectivity has become an essential part of daily life, rather than a luxury.
