Boosting India's Semiconductor Future with ASML

16 Sep, 2025

India's semiconductor ambitions are gaining significant momentum, thanks to the support from ASML, a leading chip manufacturing company based in the Netherlands. During the Semicon India 2025 event, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet highlighted the company's dedication to assisting India in achieving its chip manufacturing goals through collaboration, knowledge transfer, and cutting-edge technology.

Fouquet praised India's efforts to become a global leader in the semiconductor sector, referring to the nation as an "innovation powerhouse" that can leverage its vast pool of talent. He noted that the semiconductor industry holds immense importance for India's future, not only in terms of economic growth and job creation but also in fostering national resilience.

According to Fouquet, developing semiconductor manufacturing capabilities will enable India to secure its supply chains, encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, and unlock new research and educational opportunities. He expressed ASML's commitment to support India’s ambitions through collaboration, talent development, and the provision of advanced lithography solutions aimed at enhancing the performance of Indian fabrication plants.

With over four decades of innovation, ASML has played a vital role in the production of increasingly smaller, more powerful, and efficient microchips. The CEO expressed excitement about bringing this transformative technology to India, envisioning a collaborative environment where ideas can flourish and innovation knows no bounds.

The Semicon India 2025 event saw participation from over 20,750 attendees, including over 2,500 delegates from 48 countries. The event featured prominent speakers, global leaders, and exhibitors, showcasing the diverse opportunities within the semiconductor ecosystem.

In alignment with India's semiconductor aspirations, the Union Cabinet recently approved the establishment of four new semiconductor assembly and testing plants under the India Semiconductor Mission. With a total financial outlay of Rs 4,594 crore, the government is offering financial incentives for the construction of several chip-related factories, including the Tata-PSMC fabrication plant and various assembly and testing plants by leading companies.

As India positions itself as a significant player in the global semiconductor landscape, the collaboration with ASML and the government's proactive initiatives signal a bright and innovative future for the country's technology sector.
